Forest reserves hearing tonight

A public hearing will be held tonight on plans to add 67,000 acres on the Big Island to state forest reserves.

The hearing is at 6 p.m. at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife conference room at 19 East Kawili St. in Hilo.

Lands to be added to the forest reserves would include 37,901 acres at Pu'u Wa'a Wa'a in North Kona, and 1,371 acres at Wai'ohinu in Ka'u.

Also to be added would be about 25,856 acres at Wao Kele O Puna along the East Rift Zone of Kilauea Volcano in Puna, and about 1,500 acres at Pu'u 'O'o in South Hilo.
