HAWAI'I KAI
Left-turn arrow still not ready

Advertiser Staff

A left-turn arrow intended to make it safer to turn into the Hawai'i Kai Shopping Center is still awaiting installation despite being requested by residents and approved by the city more than two years ago.

Funding for the left-arrow light was approved in 2005. A traffic light is at the entrance to the shopping center but doesn't have a left-turn arrow into the center on Keahole Street.

Richard Torres, city Department of Transportation Services deputy director, said the city has until year's end to award a contact. "The process is taking a lot longer," Torres said. "This light will be the first priority once a contract is awarded."
