Track: Long jumper hit by javelin at meet in Rome

Associated Press

ROME — French long jumper Salim Sdiri was rushed to a hospital after he was hit by a javelin during the Golden Gala meet today.

Sdiri was standing near the long jump area when he was hit in the side by a javelin thrown by Tero Pitkamaki of Finland.

Sdiri appeared to be conscious as he was loaded into an ambulance on the track.

Local organizers said it appeared the javelin grazed Sdiri and that the accident was not life-threatening.
