Tennis: Moya, Almagro reach Swedish semifinals

Associated Press

BASTAD, Sweden — Carlos Moya and Nicolas Almagro won their quarterfinal matches in straight sets Friday to set up an all-Spanish semifinal at the Swedish Open.

The fourth-seeded Moya, who won the clay-court tournament in 2002, beat Robin Soderling 6-2, 6-4. Soderling was the last Swede in the main draw. A former French Open champion, Moya has not dropped a set in three matches.

The unseeded Almagro had a tougher match, edging Peru's Luis Horna 7-5, 6-4.

Second-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer and Filippo Volandri of Italy will meet in Saturday's other semifinal.

Ferrer routed Gilles Simon of France 6-1, 6-0 in the tournament's most one-sided match so far, and the fifth-seeded Volandri beat Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-1, 6-2.
