Free mulch at refuse stations on Kauai

Advertiser Staff

Kauai residents can load up with free mulch at the county refuse transfer stations at Hanapepe and Lihue.

The mulch is made of ground-up plant material collected as part of the county's green waste diversion program. County officials said it is rough in texture, but appropriate for moisture retention and weed control around plants.

Residents should bring their own containers and shovels.

The county will use whatever mulch is left to make compost for use at county facilities.

The transfer stations are open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
