Advertiser Staff

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — Reclaiming the title of "Long Drive Champ," former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon uncorked a powerful 319 yard drive to win the 18th Annual Long Drive Competition sponsored by Korbel Champagne Cellars.

The competition was part of the American Century Celebrity Championship at the Edgewood Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

McMahon accepted his Long Drive Trophy, then popped the Korbel champagne bottle and sprayed the crowd.

McMahon's massive drive bested runner-up "Friday Night Lights" actor Lucas Black's 308 yard blast. Former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver finished third with a 303 yard drive. Other celebrities participating in the Korbel Long Drive Competition were NFL greats Jerry Rice, Chris Chandler, Trent Dilfer, Vinny Testaverdi, David Carr and Kyle Boller, as well as baseball's Paul O'Neil and Scott Erickson and jockey Corey Nakatani.

The Korbel Long Drive Contest has been part of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship since 1992. Former New York Yankee great Paul O'Neil won the 2006 Korbel Long Drive Contest with a 357 yard blast with Carolina Panthers quarterback, David Carr finishing second. Other past winners include Emmitt Smith (1999), Chris Chandler (1997), Pete Sampras (1996) John Elway (1995) and Jim McMahon (1994).
