Hawaii's flags at half-staff to honor Lady Bird Johnson

Advertiser Staff

Flags at state and county buildings will be flown at half-staff Sunday in honor of former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson, who died Wednesday.

Gov. Linda Lingle said the order is in conjunction with President George Bush's decision to lower flags on the day of Johnson's interment.

"Lady Bird Johnson's grace and spirit as First Lady helped a mourning nation move forward during one of the most challenging periods in our country's history," Lingle said in a news release.

"As we celebrate her life and the many contributions she made to our nation, I encourage Hawai'i's residents to carry on Lady Bird Johnson's lifelong commitment to protecting the environment and preserving our Islands' natural resources."
