Softball: Odamura helps Canada to third at World Cup

Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY — Kristy Odamura singled and scored during a seven-run third inning today as Canada defeated China, 8-2, in the third-place game at the World Cup of Softball.

Odamura, who played at Hawai'i-Hilo, singled in the third, stole second and scored on Sheena Lawrick's two-run single to right center.

Noemie Marin, Janiva Willis and Megan Timpf added RBI singles, and China starter Li Qi walked in two runs in the inning as Canada (4-2) took a 7-0 lead.

Odamura, who went 1-for-1, started at second base and was later pinch hit for.

China (2-4) averted a mercy-rule loss with Zhou Yi's two-run single in the bottom of the third, but Canadian starter Danielle Lawrie allowed only two hits over the final four innings.

Lawrie gave up five hits and struck out six in the complete-game victory.
