In its first week, the City and County of Honolulu's "Drive Akamai" traffic information program received more than 5,000 hits on its Web site and nearly 10,000 calls on its Drive Akami Hotline, Mayor Mufi Hannemann said in a released statement."It's good to know that people are seeking out the very useful information that we are providing so that they can better plan their daily commutes," Hannemann said.
The website and public outreach effort has a price tag of $70,000. The program was unveiled on July 5.
"I'm happy to see that people are taking advantage of the tools we are providing while our administration goes about the work of improving our public infrastructure,"Hannemann said. "Residents can look forward to further enhancements on both the website (www.driveakamai.org) and the hotline (768-3777)."
