California attorney, Hastings' Law College recognized

Attorney Susan M. Doherty, alternative dispute resolution program coordinator of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the central district of California, today was presented the 2007 Robert F. Peckham Award for her achievements in ADR at the 2007 Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in Honolulu.

The award recognizes judicial employees who have significantly advanced delivery of effective court-based ADR programs in the circuit.

Senior Circuit Judge Dorothy W. Nelson, chair of the Ninth Circuit's Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, presented Doherty with her award.

The University of California Hastings' College of Law was honored today with the Ninth Circuit ADR Education Award which recognizes a law school that has advanced ADR scholarship and research. Professor Chris Knowlton, director of Hastings' Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, accepted the award.

The conference opened today at the Sheraton Waikiki hotel.

More than 800 judges, judiciary employees, representatives of government agencies and private attorneys are here for the four-day conference. The Ninth Circuit includes the districts of northern, central, eastern and southern California, and also Hawai'i, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and eastern and western Washington plus the U.S. Territory of Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
