Advanced Placement program for teachers continues

Advertiser Staff

Approximately 160 teachers from public schools within the state are among the 255 participants at the 13th Annual Hawaii International Advanced Placement Program Summer Institute (AP Institute) taking place through Friday at Kaiser High School.

The AP Institute is a one-week intensive teacher training opportunity for both experienced and new teachers of AP courses, a Department of Education news release said.

The AP Institute features concurrent sessions in more than 16 content areas.

The DOE Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support has partnered with The College Board to offer this Summer Institute to enable Hawai'i teachers to explore ways to introduce analytic skills fundamental to academic success.

Other objectives include understanding practical information for the implementation and development of AP courses; examining successful models for teaching both content and analytical skills; understanding how to apply the themes and concepts of AP curriculum; identifying textbooks, web sites, videos, and other instructional materials used to support AP curriculum; and understanding and applying selected AP activities, labs, and demonstrations.
