'Hedwig' production at Doris Duke Theatre in August

Advertiser Staff

The Doris Duke Underground Theatre will host a production of the John Cameron Mitchell musical comedy "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" in August.

The story of a young man who accidentally becomes a woman, was developed as a performance piece and later filmed for a 2001 big screen version directed by and starring Mitchell in the lead role.

Multi-faceted local artist Otto — who last produced the show on the Doris Duke Theatre stage in May 2002 — will reprise the lead role, with his real-life band The 86 List performing as Hedwig's band The Angry Inch.

Show dates at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Doris Duke Theatre are Aug. 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 and Sept. 1. All performances will begin at 8 p.m.

Admission is $15 general; $10 for students, seniors, military at Honolulu Academy of Arts members.
