KEALAKEKUA
Highway work to delay traffic

Advertiser Staff

County road crews on Sunday will begin night work to resurface Highway 11 in Kealakekua between First Hawaiian Bank and Haukapila Street.

The project will add three bus stops, add left turn lanes, pave highway shoulders and complete swales. Work will be done from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should expect delays because only one lane will be open to traffic.

The work is scheduled to end Friday, July 27.

The project is part of the second phase of improvements to Mamalahoa Highway in South Kona.

The larger Mamalahoa project will cost $2 million, and is scheduled to be completed this year.
