U.S. hotel room revenue rose 4.1 percent last week

U.S. hotels' revenue per available room rose 4.1 percent in the week ended July 14 from the same period a year earlier, according to Smith Travel Research. The revenue figure, known as RevPAR, is based on average occupancy and room rates.

RevPar for the week ending July 14 was $76.12, up from the $73.12 in the July 15, 2006 week.

Occupancy, or the percentage of rooms used, was 74.1 percent in the latest week versus 74.4 percent a year earlier.

Average daily rate was $102.68 compared to $98.26.
