Recalls: coffee makers, brake cylinders, toys, candles

Associated Press

The following recalls have been announced:

  • About 392,000 Signature Gourmet and Kitchen Gourmet 12-cup coffee makers, manufactured in China and imported by Atico International USA Inc., because an electrical problem can cause the coffee makers to catch fire. The company has received 14 reports of electrical failures, including six reports of coffee makers igniting. The coffee makers were sold at Walgreens stores around the country between August 2003 and December 2006. Details: by phone at 877-546-4835; by Web at http://www.aticousa.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

  • About 200 190 radial brake master cylinders for off-road motorcycles, manufactured in Germany and distributed by Magura USA, because the cylinders can crack and cause the brakes to fail. No injuries have been reported. Details: by phone at 800-448-3876; by Web at http://www.magurausa.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

  • About 13,000 Soldier Bear brand toy sets, manufactured in China and imported and sold by AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service), because paint on the surface of the figures contains high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by young children. No injuries have been reported. The recall includes various styles of the following toys: H.E.R.O.E.S. Dino Mega Cruiser, Dinosaur Adventure Set, Wild Animal Adventure Set and H.E.R.O.E.S. Vehicle Play Set. Details: by phone at 800-866-3605; by Web at http://www.aafes.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

  • About 2,000 cinnamon spice candles, imported by Vance Kitira International and manufactured in Thailand, because there are no instructions on the candle warning consumers to remove the cinnamon sticks and trim the wick before lighting the candle. The cinnamon sticks can ignite, posing a fire hazard. There has been one report of a cinnamon stick causing a small fire contained to the candle and no reports of injuries. The candles, which have the item number CS406BR, were sold from May 2006 through June 2007. Details: by phone at 800-646-6360; by Web at http://vancekitira.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.
