An opening reception for the new exhibit, "Just East of West," takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at The ARTS at Marks Garage. The exhibit is a project of the Hawaii Arts Alliance. For the show, Honolulu artists were encouraged to explore the people and customs of the Pacific Rim.

Hawai'i artist Masami Teraoka, has contributed three classic prints. Works from contemporary printmakers comment on land use. This component, "Plotting Paradise," is curated by Erika Johnson.

Also on display: a collaboration between surfboard shaper Eric Walden and Bhutan monk Sangay Rinchen.

Dozens of artists responded to the "Just East of West" open call with 130 works of art. From these, 23 pieces by 17 artists were selected.
