Residents can learn more about the archaeology of Waimea Valley and view the preserved ahupua'a by moonlight this month.

Visits with the Waimea Valley Audubon Center's archaeologist are from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, and the moon walk takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. July 27.

The archaeologist can explain the historical makeup of the valley. Take the trail to the library, located next to the nursery. The visit is free with admission.

Moon-walk hikers should wear comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight for the 1-mile trek. Ticket sales start at 7:30 p.m. and the gate closes at 8 p.m. Adults $5, children 4 to 12 years $3.
