Kauai power failure ends after 40 minutes

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Parts of Kaua'i suffered a 40-minute power failure today after a generator circuit breaker tripped at the Port Allen Power Plant.

Kaua'i Island Utility Co-op spokeswoman Anne Barnes said the utility is investigating why it tripped.

Some customers in Kalaheo, 'Oma'o, Lawa'i, Lihu'e, Kapa'a, Anahola, Princeville and Hanalei were affected. The power went out at 11:17 a.m., and was back islandwide by 11:58 a.m., Barnes said.
