New office launches Hawaii into spaceflight world

The official opening of the State Offices of Aerospace Development will be celebrated at the Dole Cannery Theatres at 6:30 this evening.Lt. Governor James "Duke" Aiona said on his Web site today that the new office is a step toward rivaling such states as California and Florida in developing an entrepreneurial spaceflight industry. The opening also comes as Hawai'i prepares to apply to the federal government for a permit to build on the Big Island a spacecraft port for rockets that can land like airplanes, Aiona's Lt. Governor Web site said.
"Our administration has made innovation in science and technology a top priority for our state and aerospace is clearly an important dimension of that," Aiona said on the site.
