Woman injured in freeway crash

Advertiser Staff

A 28-year-old woman suffered critical injuries last night in a crash on H-1 Freeway near the airport.

Police closed the westbound lanes of the airport viaduct. Traffic was rerouted to Kamehameha Highway. Traffic leaving the airport was allowed to enter the freeway's westbound lanes.

The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, said Bryan Cheplic, Honolulu emergency services spokesman.

A male in the vehicle also was taken to Queen's. His condition was not immediately known.

The accident happened about 8 p.m. in H-1 westbound lanes near the airport exit.

BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT CHARGED

Federal authorities yesterday charged a 20-year-old Kalihi man with Friday's robbery of the Kalihi branch of Bank of Hawaii.

George C. Aquiningoc Jr. of a Gulick Avenue address allegedly handed a teller a demand note stating "give all your money or I'll blow your (expletive) brains out" and took $9,787 from the bank at 1950 North King St., a criminal complaint said.

Police today will turn him over to the FBI. Aquiningoc has been at the main police station cellblock since 1:15 p.m. Tuesday when he voluntarily surrendered to a Kalihi Crime Reduction Unit officer.

According to the federal complaint, police identified Aquiningoc as a suspect from a Honolulu CrimeStoppers tip and "confidential source" information.

Aquiningoc allegedly told the confidential source he robbed the bank because "he owed someone money," according to the complaint.

At both locations, the city recently installed curb ramps, pedestrian buttons and pedestrian signals.

Cost of the projects was $298,000 for Mo'ili'ili and $371,000 for Kalihi.
