Sacred Hearts senior Ayaka Kaneko shot a 1-over-par 72 yesterday and was in fourth at 142, five shots off the lead after the second round of the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.

Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., shot a 67 and led at 5-under 137, two shots ahead of Diane Kwon of Fremont, Calif., who shot a 70.

The tournament, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, ends today.

In other AJGA tournaments yesterday:

  • Paul Shoji of Honolulu was tied for 43rd after a 3-over 75 in the first round of the John Deere Classic Junior All-Star at Glynns Creek Golf Course in Long Grove, Iowa. Thomas Bradshaw of Columbia, S.C., leads with a 67.

  • Waimea, Hawai'i's Max Bonk shot an 8-over 78 and was tied for 26th at 150 after the second round of the Golf World West Championship at Pleasanton, Calif. Three golfers were tied for the lead at 1-under 139. Ethan Wang of Honolulu shot a 79 and was tied 47th at 156.

  • Pono Calip of Pahoa shot a 6-over 78 and was tied for 36th at 154 after the second round of the Hanmi Bank Junior Open at Santa Clarita, Calif. Two golfers shared the lead at 141. Henry Park of Waikoloa shot a 76 and was tied for 61st at 160.

    JUNIOR WORLD

    T.J. Kua of Lihu'e shot a 2-under-par 70 yesterday to move into a tie for sixth in the boys 15-17 age division after the second round of the Callaway Golf Junior World Golf Championships at Torrey Pines North Course in San Diego.

    Kua is at 144 after two rounds. Dylan Frittelli of South Africa leads with 70—140.
