Passenger in car crash charged with assault

A 32-year-old man who police say was involved in a domestic argument with his wife when their car crashed on the H-1 Freeway's airport viaduct Wednesday night was charged today with felony assault.Iovani Alatini was charged with second-degree assault which carries a prison term of up to five years.
His bail was set at $50,000.
Alatini's wife was driving the car when police said Alatini kicked the steering wheel, causing the car to hit a barrier and roll over several times. The wife was hospitalized in critical condition. Alatini was also treated for injuries.
The 7:45 p.m. crash in the west-bound lanes closed H-1 viaduct for about six hours.
