Unionized Ala Moana condotel workers set labor rally

Advertiser Staff

Hotel workers Local 5 are scheduled to rally today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. outside the Ala Moana Condominium Hotel in support of a new contract for workers.

This is a follow-up to a May rally of 500 Local 5 workers, supporters from other unions and the community that marked the one-year anniversary of workers at the Ala Moana Condominium Hotel working without a new contract.

Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, Hawai'i's largest locally owned hotel owner and operator, has taken over management of the Ala Moana Hotel for a developer that bought the 1,150-room property and then resold units to individual owners as condominiums.

The contracts for more than 300 Ala Moana workers expired on May 31, 2006. For more information on Hawaii Hotel Workers Rising visit www.unitehere5.orgor www.hotelworkersrising.org.
