HEMIC gets 'A' financial strength rating from A.M. Best

The Hawaii Employers' Mutual Insurance Co. (HEMIC) has received an "A" financial strength rating from A.M. Best Co.Best said the rating reflects HEMIC's risk-adjusted capitalization, profitability, conservative operating strategies and market position in the Hawai'i workers' compensation market.
HEMIC will celebrate its 10th anniversary of doing business in Hawai'i at an event from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the Oahu Country Club.
U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono will attend the event to mark the occasion and call attention to the significant improvements in the industry since HEMIC's creation.
As Hawaii's lieutenant governor in the mid-1990s, she saw the need for reform and studied efforts in other states to find a system that would work for Hawaii by helping employers' efforts to achieve lower premiums by making their workplaces safer.
