Stryker Brigade environmental study released

Advertiser Staff

The Army is inviting public comment on a draft environmental impact statement that includes stationing the second brigade of the 25th Infantry Division Stryker Brigade Combat Team in Alaska and Colorado.

The draft statement is the result of a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision that found the Army did not fully comply with federal environmental laws when it conducted an environmental impact statement in 2004. The court found the Army did not adequately analyze alternatives to stationing the Stryker brigade at Schofield Barracks.

The alternatives in the current draft statement include stationing the brigade at Fort Richardson in Alaska and Fort Carson in Colorado.

Written comments will be accepted until Sept. 4. The Army said public meetings will be held in Hawai'i, Alaska and Colorado from Aug. 13 to Aug. 31.

Written comments and suggestions may be sent to Public Affairs Office, U. S. Army Environmental Command, Building E4460, 5179 Hoadley Road, Attention: IMAE-PA, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD 21010-5401. E-mail comments can be sent to PublicComments@aec.apgee.army.mil.
