A Miloli'i, Hawai'i, woman has been charged with attempted arson and assault for allegedly stabbing her husband and threatening to blow up their home, police said.

A 54-year-old man told police the woman stabbed him in the chest during an argument, and that when he then got into his vehicle to leave, the woman threw a large rock that shattered the passenger window.

The woman then allegedly carried several propane cylinders into the home and opened the valves, threatening to blow up the house, police were told.

Bernice Kaupu, 52, was charged with first-degree assault, terroristic threatening, criminal property damage and attempted second-degree arson. Kaupu was being held at the Kona police station in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The injured man was taken to Kona Community Hospital, and was discharged yesterday morning.

MISSING GIRL, 13, SOUGHT BY POLICE

Big Island police are looking for a 13-year-old girl reported missing from her Hilo home since July 14.

She has been identified as Tatiana Cortes-Cortes. She is described as 5 feet 1, about 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Police ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to call Officer Fetuutuunai Amui-muia of South Hilo Patrol at 961-2213 or the Police Department's nonemergency number at 935-3311.

TRIPPED GENERATOR KILLS KAUA'I POWER

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Parts of Kaua'i suffered a 40-minute power outage yesterday after a generator tripped at the Port Allen Power Plant.

Kaua'i Island Utility Co-op communications officer Anne Barnes said the utility was investigating why it tripped.

Some customers in Kalaheo, 'Oma'o, Lawa'i, Lihu'e, Kapa'a, Anahola, Princeville and Hanalei were affected. The power went out at 11:17 a.m. and was back on islandwide by 11:58 a.m.
