Kaneohe Canoe Club wins fifth Hui Waa title in a row

The Kane'ohe Canoe Club won its fifth consecutive Na 'Ohana O Na Hui Wa'a championship today.

Kane'ohe completed an undefeated 2007 season by winning the Hui Wa'a Championship Regatta today at Ke'ehi Lagoon.

Kane'ohe's youth paddlers provided the difference, winning 10 races and scoring 55 points. Kane'ohe finished the 39-race regatta with 75 points to win the AAA division for big clubs.

Manu O Ke Kai placed second with 62, and Na Keiki O Ka Mo'i was third with 55.

Waikiki Beachboys won the AA division for medium-sized clubs with 48 points.

In the A division for small clubs, Kalihi Kai and Ka Mamalahoe tied for first with 19 points each.

The top crews from the Hui Wa'a organization qualified for the state championship regatta, which is scheduled for Aug. 4 at Hanalei Bay, Kaua'i.

The O'ahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association Championship Regatta will be run tomorrow at Ke'ehi Lagoon.
