Big Island traffic victim identified

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police have identified a man killed in a Friday traffic accident as Jules Anjain, 33, of Hamakua.

Police have launched a negligent homicide investigation into the South Kona accident that killed Anjain, who was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle.

Police said the 2000 Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on Route 11 in Honaunau near the 99-mile marker shortly after 4 p.m. Friday when the driver apparently lost control.

The vehicle ran off the road, struck an embankment and flipped over.

Anjain was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital at 7:40 p.m.

Speed and alcohol are thought to be contributing factors.

Anyone with information is asked to call officer Marvin Troutman at 808-326-4646, ext. 229 or acting sergeant Wendall Carter at 808-961-2332.
