Pyewacket on pace to earn fastest elapsed-time honors

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Roy E. Disney's Pyewacket remained on pace to earn fastest elapsed time honors, but also was in contention to be the first boat to finish in the 44th biennial Transpacific Yacht Race from California to Hawai'i.

Pyewacket, with Disney's son Roy Pat Disney and Greg Hedrick as co-skippers, is expected to finish sometime after sunup Sunday. Today's early roll call put it about 36 hours from the finish off Diamond Head. Pyewacket would have had to finish by 2:04 a.m. Sunday to set the race record.

Two other boats — Kokopelli 2 and Reinrag2 — were 34 and 38 hours out and that could make for a close finish. Both boats left three days before Pyewacket off Point Fermin in San Pedro, Calif.

Reintag2, which is first in Division 4, is the leader for first place overall based on corrected handicapped time.
