Woman run over while lying on Maui road

Maui News

KIHEI, Maui — Police said traffic investigators recovered a truck suspected in a hit-and-run collision that critically injured a pedestrian early Saturday on South Kihei Road.

A 32-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries after apparently being run over while lying in the northbound lane near Kihei Town Center, said Lt. Bobby Hill, commander of the police Traffic Section. He said the incident was reported at 1:39 a.m.

The woman was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, Hill said.

Working on information and leads developed at the scene, police later found the suspect truck and were working to identify the driver, Hill said.

He said South Kihei Road was closed between Halelani and Keala places from 1:45 to 5:03 a.m. while traffic officers investigated.
