Waipio wins State Little League tournament

Waipio hit five homers to beat Kaneohe National, 8-2, today to win the Little League Majors state tournament at Pride Field in Barbers Point.

The tournament is for 11- to 12-year-olds and is the same division that produced the West Oahu team that became the first from Hawaii to win the World Series at Williamsport, Pa. It is the oldest Little League division, starting in 1939 with its first World Series in 1947.

Paris struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings also homered.

Waipio, which won the state title last year, will play in the West Regional Aug. 3-12 in San Bernardino, Calif. The World Series is Aug. 17-26 in Williamsport, Pa.
