"Ka Himeni Ana" song competition to be held Aug. 4

"Ka Himeni Ana," a song competition of unamplified old-style performances, will feature 12 acts, with contenders ranging in age from 13 to 70, at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Hawai'i Theatre.Marlene Sai will emcee; judges will be Haunani Apoliona, Nina Keali'iwahamana and Bill Kaiwa. Pre-show organ entertainment begins at 7 p.m.
Contestants including duos featuring mother-and-daughter, father-and-son and husband-and-wife must compete in the nahenahe tradition without microphones and amplification. Prizes include a Hula Records contract and cash awards of $1,200, $800, $600, $400, $300 and $200.
