HPR classical guitar concert at Atherton Saturday

The husband and wife classical guitar duo of Kathrin Murray and Troy King return to HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 in a concert that includes works by Granados, Turina, Brahms, de Falla, and Cordero.

Kathrin Murray was born and brought up in Honolulu. As a child she performed frequently throughout the islands with the 'ukulele group called The Super Keikis. She started playing the guitar at age 15, and now she is an active guitar soloist, chamber musician and teacher based in Baltimore, Maryland. She teaches at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, and the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore.

Her debut CD recording will be released in the fall of 2007. It features compositions by Manuel Ponce, Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, Maximo Diego Pujol, Agustin Barrios and Gilbert Biberian.

Troy King regularly performs concerts throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America. He has been heard on the BBC and frequently on National Public Radio in both the United States and Spain. He has been a soloist with orchestras across the country and a frequent participant in festival performances. King has released two solo guitar recordings, each including world premieres and receiving international critical acclaim: "Musique de Salon: Classical Guitar Music for a New Belle Epoque," on the IGW label, and "Musica del Arte: Masterworks for Guitar by Latin American Composers," on the Centaur Records label. He teaches classical guitar at Towson University in Baltimore.

Tickets for the Saturday concert are $20 general admission, $17.50 for HPR members, and $10 for students with ID. For reservations, call 955-8821.
