The United Chinese Society of Hawaii, sponsor of the Miss Chinatown Hawaii Pageant, is seeking contestants for the 30th Annual Miss Chinatown Hawaii Pageant.

The pageant will be held Sunday, Nov. 4, at Hawai'i Theatre.

Required qualifications:

  • Contestants must be women of Chinese ancestry ages 18 to 26, with a Chinese surname and a father of Chinese descent.

  • Contestants must be single, have never been married, and have no children.

  • Contestants must be United States citizens or permanent residents of Hawai'i.

The Miss Chinatown Hawaii Pageant empowers women of Chinese ancestry to learn more about their heritage.

The women are trained in Chinese history and culture, make-up, beauty and poise, physical fitness, interviewing and personal development.

Qualified contestants are eligible to win prizes including cash, tuition scholarships, and a trip to the Orient. Last year, Hawai'i Pacific University awarded scholarships to three women who participated in the pageant.

In addition, the winner of the Miss Chinatown Hawaii Pageant advances to compete in the 2008 Miss Chinatown USA pageant in San Francisco.
