KAPAHULU
Slashing suspect turns himself in

Advertiser Staff

A 48-year-old man accused of slashing a 60-year-old woman's throat in Honolulu on Saturday called police hours after the attack to turn himself in, a police affidavit said.

Jay S. Kalahele was charged with attempted assault in the first degree, a class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, the prosecutor's office said.

Police said the attack was reported at Date and La'au streets shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday. The victim was taken to the hospital and survived.

About eight hours later police went to a Date Street address in response to a male caller who wanted to turn himself in for slashing a woman's throat.
