Colleges: Woman won't pursue charges against players

PHILADELPHIA — A Villanova University student who reported she was raped by three incoming freshman football players does not want to press charges.

Police in suburban Radnor said today the woman told investigators she was not interested in having them continue a probe that could lead to charges.

Police superintendent John Rutty said the woman's decision does not preclude her from asking them to renew the investigation later.

The university announced Wednesday it had rescinded the admission of the three football players in its investigation of the incident. The alleged sexual assault occurred on campus July 14 and was reported to Villanova's public safety department the next day, school officials said.

The players were enrolled for one summer class and knew the woman who reported the assault.
