Hawaii's Chow leads All-Star junior golf

Honolulu's Marissa Chow shot a 3-over-par 75 yesterday to take a four-stroke lead after the second round of the Junior All-Star at Grand National in Opelika, Ala.
Chow is at 4-over 148 in the 16-player field. Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., is second at 152 after a 75 yesterday in the American Junior Golf Association tournament.
Paul Shoji of Honolulu shot a 1-over 73 and was tied for 14th at 148 in the 78-player boys division. Kyohei Itamura of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., had a two-stroke lead after shooting a 65 for a 5-under 139.
BOXING
KAWANO TO COACH
Hawai'i boxing coach Bruce Kawano has been selected to participate in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for boxing, which will be held in Houston Aug. 19 to 27.
Kawano, who won three Golden Glove titles as a fighter, has previously coached at the World Championships in Cuba, Russia and India, as well as the Pan American Games in Mexico City.
In a release issued yesterday, Kawano said he does not expect to be chosen to coach in the Olympics in 2008, but considers being tabbed for the Trials as his "biggest and most prestigious selection."

MANIN LEAVING UH
Lois Manin, who served as the University of Hawai'i's sports media relations director the past 12 years, is leaving her position to pursue other opportunities.
She declined to comment.
Manin, who handled UH football, was the point person in Colt Brennan's Heisman Trophy campaign.
She is a graduate of Kaiser High School and Colorado State.
BASEBALL
HILO ELIMINATED
Northern California defeated Hilo, 5-2, Tuesday in an elimination game of the Little League Big League (ages 16-18) West Regional at Bremerton, Wash.
Southern California beat Northern California, 2-1, to earn a berth in the World Series.
Earlier, Hilo beat Arizona, 6-5; lost to Northern California, 2-1; and beat Nevada, 8-7.

MOCK MOVING UP
Former University of Hawai'i wide receiver Chad Mock has been promoted to the B.C. Lions' active roster and he is set to start this weekend, according to Canadian Football League consultant Jon Nielsen.
Mock, a Farrington High alum, was on the practice roster for the first two weeks.
