Wie 1-under through 10 at Evian Masters

Advertiser Staff

Michelle Wie is eight holes away from making it to weekend play.

The 17-year-old Punahou grad has birdied three straight holes to climb to 1-under par through 10 holes in the second round of the Evian Masters in Evian-Les-Baines, France.

Wie shot a 1-over-par 73 yesterday and started today seven strokes off the lead held by Pat Hurst, Eun-Hee Ji and Brittany Lincicome, who are just getting their second rounds underway.

Wie parred the first hole, bogeyed No. 2 and birdied No. 3 before stringing together three straight pars. She ran into trouble on the par-5 seventh, scoring a double-bogey on a hole she birdied in the first round.

The double-bogey briefly dropped her 2-over for the tournament and comes on the heels of having withdrawn from the past two tournaments she's entered and 24 consecutive rounds without shooting under par.

But today, she responded with birdies on the 8th, 9th and 10th holes is currently in a logjam tied for 29th with eight other players.

Wie finished second at last year's Evian Masters, but has been battling a wrist injury this season.
