Fountains of Wayne coming to Hawaii on Oct. 23

Advertiser Staff

Quirky retro power-pop band Fountains of Wayne are returning to Honolulu for an Oct. 23 concert at Pipeline Cafe.

Tickets go on sale on Aug. 4 at 9 a.m. online at ticketmaster.com, by phone at 877-750-4400, all Ticketmaster locations and Hawaii's Natural High.

Tickets are $22 general and $45 VIP.

Doors open at 6 p.m.; the show is at 7 p.m.

Co-founded by lead singer-songwriters Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger, Fountains of Wayne were being heralded by the indie band underground long before its 2003 third album "Welcome Interstate Managers" finally won it some national attention with the witty, semi-salacious '80s pop reminiscent radio hit "Stacy's Mom." The album became one of the year's surprise critical and commercial successes, winding up on dozens of music critic 2003 Top 10 lists (including Honolulu Advertiser entertainment writer Derek Paiva's).

Fountains of Wayne's current CD is "Traffic and Weather," released in April.

The band's last concert here was in September 2003 at the annual multi-act music fest Band Camp.
