Funds freed for highway work

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle has released $406,345 in additional funds to make shoulder and guardrail improvements on Kamehameha V Highway, from Kapuoko'olau to Kamalo on Moloka'i.

The project includes highway excavation, pavement installation and drainage improvements.

Federal funds are paying for approximately $3 million of the $3.8 million project, and the governor previously released $360,000 to start construction. The work is expected to begin next month and finish by September 2008.

The project is part of the Department of Transportation's Guardrail and Shoulder Improvement Program.
