Deakins second in bowling

 •  Trail starts off slow, then ends with big climb

Kane'ohe's Shelley Deakins finished second in the Girls Division 2 of the 2007 Pepsi United States Bowling Congress Youth Championships last week in Buffalo, N.Y.

Deakins collected $1,500 in scholarship money. Kellie Golias, of Sugarloaf, Pa., won the division.

AKIMOTO, 88, BOWLS 211

Patsy Akimoto, 88, of Mo'i-li'ili, bowled a 211 scratch score on July 13 at Wai'alae Bowl in the Fun over 50 League.

Akimoto, who has been bowling for more than 30 years, had a previous high game of 201 and an average of 145.
