Crash near Kipapa bridge on Kam Highway injures 7

A three-car accident about 10:10 p.m. Friday night near the bridge on Kamehameha Highway that spans Kipapa Gulch sent seven people with various injuries to the hospital and closed the highway for at least an hour.

Following the accident, a 38-year-old woman was reported to be in serious condition; an 8-year-old boy in serious condition; a 17-year-old boy in serious condition; a 20-year-old man in stable condition; a 38-year-old man in stable condition; and a 14-year-old boy in serious condition, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.

A 39-year-old man, who was the driver of one of the cars, was pinned in his vehicle following the crash and had to be freed by firefighters, Cheplic said. He eventually was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
