Golf: Ching leads Optimist Junior International by four

Honolulu's Alex Ching shot a 4-under-par 68 today to take a four-stroke lead into the final round of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Ching, a senior-to-be at Punahou School, had five birdies and one bogey to finish at 4-under 212.

Brandon Heinkel of Boynton Beach, Fla. (70) and Thailand's Thanachot Tandavas (71) share second in the 197-player field.

Jared Sawada of Mililani is tied for 129th at 78—241 and Kaua'i's Cory Oride is tied for 147th at 81—244.

In the girls division, 'Aiea's Anna Jang is tied for 19th at 77—235 and Honolulu's Brittany Isobe is tied for 98th at 89—277.

Catherine O'Donnell of Ponte Vedra, Fla., has a three-stroke lead in the 110-player field at 71—215.

Elsewhere, Alex Chiarella of Maui placed sixth in the boys Class of 2012 division Friday at the U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Championship in Naples, Fla. He finished four strokes behind at 75—217.
