Rain delays Big Island street resurfacing project

Advertiser Staff

Due to rainy conditions, the Hawaii County Department of Public Works will extend the night paving schedule for

Highway 11 in Kealakekua from Sunday, July 29, to Wednesday, Aug. 1. Asphalt

concrete road resurfacing requires dry conditions, county officials said.

The crew will resume operations Sunday night, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Road resurfacing is between the Kona Hongwanji to the intersection of Haukapila Street and

Highway 11.

Motorists driving in Kealakekua may also experience irregular road surfaces in certain sections of

the highway. This is temporary. The rough spots and joints will be removed as the shoulders are

resurfaced.
