5.9 quake rattles area west of Alaska

Another very strong earthquake has been recorded in the Pacific Basin, this time in Russian territory about 155 miles west-northwest of Attu, Alaska.The quake, which occurred at 6:54 p.m. Saturday, Hawai'i time, was assigned a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 by the U.S Geological Survey Earthquake Center.
There have been no reports of injury or damage associated with the quake, one of more than a dozen powerful earthquakes felt around the "Pacific Ring of Fire" during the past week.
