Tree removal to continue this week along H-2 Freeway

Advertiser Staff

HONOLULU — The state Department of Transportation a is reminding Oahu motorists of right and shoulder lane closures on the H-2 Freeway in the northbound direction from the Ka Uka Boulevard Overpass to the Meheula Parkway Overpass on Monday, July 30, through Friday, August 3, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., daily, for tree removal and landscaping work.

Specific trees immediately adjacent to the H-2 Freeway are being removed due to safety concerns.

Inspections of three types of non-native trees — the Albizia, Opiuma and Christmas Berry — have determined that branches could break and potentially cause damage to vehicles or injury to motorists.

Tree removal work will continue through September and cover both the northbound and southbound lanes of the H-2 Freeway.  Native trees will be replanted in the area near the end of the year.

Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time.
