The fire that damaged a more than 40-year-old four-bedroom home Thursday in 'Ewa Beach started in an air-conditioning unit, according to Honolulu Fire Department investigators.

"There was some kind of a failure in the AC unit," HFD spokesman Capt. Frank Johnson said today.

The AC unit was located in the bedroom of 96-year-old Epifanio Pacquing, who escaped with minor injuries.

The fire at 91-952 Fort Weaver Road caused an estimated $240,000 damage to the structure and resulted in loss of contents valued at about $40,000, said Johnson.
