Keolu Center Cinemas to close by end of April 2008

Advertiser Staff

The Keolu Center Cinemas in Kailua are scheduled to close by the end of April 2008 when the lease to the building expires.

Hollywood Theaters, the Portland, Ore.-based firm that operates the theaters, has decided not to renew the lease, said Steve Sofos, leasing agent for the Keolu Shopping Center. The lease ends on April 30, 2008, but Sofos said it's possible that the theaters will close before then.

Officials with Hollywood Theaters could not be reached for comment.

Sofos said he is "talking with prospects" for the 10,082-square-foot building, although no agreements have been reached. He said the landowner will consider subdividing the space.

Hollywood Theaters operates theaters at Restaurant Row and in La'ie on O'ahu; the Kress Cinemas and Prince Kuhio Theatres in Hilo; Makalapua Cinemas in Kona, Front Street Theatre and Wharf Cinemas in Lahaina; at Maui Mall; and Coconut Marketplace on Kaua'i.
