Heeia man suspect in robbery, extortion probe

A 43-year-old He'eia man remained uncharged but in police custody today for investigation of robbing a convenience store and attempted extortion.

The separate incidents occurred last night in Kane'ohe.

According to police, a man threatened to stab a convenience store clerk and fled on foot with cash from the register. No weapon was seen by the clerk,

The man ran from police responding to the robbery at the 45-600 block of Kamehameha Highway and entered a vehicle being driven by a woman, 60.

The unsuccessfully used physical force to get the woman to drive off and fled from the vehicle as police closed in.

He was arrested at 7:25 p.m. after a short foot chase.
