Heeia man charged with robbery, extortion

Advertiser Staff

A He'eia man charged with second-degree robbery and attempted extortion made his initial appearance today at District Court.

Roy Thomas Batungbacal, 43, is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Batungbacal is accused of robbing a convenience store clerk Sunday at 6:10 p.m. by threatening to stab her although no weapon was seen.

The robbery occurred on the 45-600 block of Kamehameha Highway in Kane'ohe. In an attempt to flee from police officers responding to the robbery, Batungbacal allegedly entered a vehicle and unsuccessfully used physical force to get a woman, 60, to drive off.

Police caught him after a foot chase.
